About the Authors

Both Susan Basalla and Maggie Debelius earned their Ph.D.’s in English at Princeton University.

Susan Basalla writes regularly for the “Beyond the Ivory Tower” column in the Chronicle of Higher Education and, together with Maggie, gives talks on graduate student career options at universities around the country. She has worked in philanthropy, journalism and new media, and is currently a managing associate for Art & Science Group, which specializes in developing market-informed strategy for colleges and universities.

Maggie Debelius has taught writing and literature courses at the University of Colorado, Princeton, and Georgetown University, where she currently serves as the Associate Director of the Writing Program. She also consults with business and nonprofit groups about effective workplace writing.
