Monuments of Renaissance Music
The series is closed to new submissions.
The Monuments of Renaissance Music was founded by Edward E. Lowinsky as an antidote to the editions of single masters and showcases the variety of talents and temperaments that make up an artistic tradition. The thirteen volumes published since 1964 have been anthologies of instrumental music, chansons, motets, madrigals, and masses, both printed and manuscript, with sources ranging from the late fifteenth century to the early seventeenth. The emphasis has been on critical editions that are accessible to performers. The final volume in preparation is the edition of the Chigi Codex, an anthology of masses and motets by the outstanding composers of the late fifteenth century, with a historical introduction on the circumstances of its commission and its peripatetic journey from the Netherlands to Italy.
