Welcome to the AAUP Online Catalog
The Association of American University Presses Online Catalog began business in September 1995 and has been growing ever since. We currently list over 75,000 book titles from over 60 presses. We update our listings from time to time and add new presses. If you don't find what you are looking for now, visit our site again in a few weeks. If you like what you see or don't and have a suggestion, please send us your comments using our online comment form or send us an email message. Our basic data set--the library "catalog card"--comes from the Library of Congress MARC records, provided to us courtesy of the Library Corporation. To this we are adding whatever is available from the participating presses, which ranges from partial price and print status information in some cases to extensive descriptive text in others. When you see the phrase "(not listed)" in the place where the price would norminally appear, it means merely that we do not yet have information from the publisher of that book. If the publication date is relatively recent, the book is probably still in print and obtainable from the publisher or your local bookstore. If the book was published a decade or more ago, it may be out of print but may nonetheless be available through University Microfilms International.
The AAUP Catalog can be easily searched in a variety of ways, such as by author, title, and standard Library of Congress subject keywords. The entire contents can be explored using boolean expressions or searches can be limited to specific subject areas based on the Library of Congress subject classifications. Our aim is to make everything accessible but also to enable highly focused searches so that you will not be overwhelmed by an unmanageable quantity of hits. We recommend that you take a look at our Guidelines to Searching the AAUP Catalog/Bookstore.
After reading descriptive text about any book in the catalog, you may be given the option of following a link to a customized order form that can be downloaded or printed out and then mailed or faxed to the appropriate press. If the link does not appear at the bottom of the text, it means the book is either no longer in print, not yet listed with us by the publisher, or we do not yet have an order form from the publisher. So you are still advised to inquire at your local bookstore. Eventually we hope to enable you to place orders directly with the publisher from this site.
Besides providing combined access to the books of all participating AAUP members, the catalog offers links to the individual on-line catalogs of more than 40 scholarly presses at other sites. Book descriptions in the AAUP Catalog can also be linked to related materials at other locations.
Development of the combined catalog began more than two years ago and has been centered at the University of Chicago Press and Princeton University Press. Financial support for the project was provided by a grant from the Hewlett Foundation.
