Laurie Lee (1914–97), the much-loved author of Cider with Rosie, a winsome memoir of changing village life in rural England in the years after World War I, was born in 1914. In honor of his centennial, the British Library has gathered a wonderful collection of interviews, readings, and reflections on his life that Lee recorded over the years for the BBC. Making this material widely available for the first time since it was initially broadcast, the compact disc will charm longtime fans even as it introduces a new generation to Lee’s unforgettable voice and richly textured memories.
Ronald Blythe | Times Literary Supplement
"His lasting music was in the way he wrote in a carefully crafted hand which couldn't tell prose from poetry. . . . We read for the sheer pleasure of his writing."
