William Bynum is professor emeritus of the UCL Centre for the History of Medicine in London. He is author of Dictionary of the History of Science, Science and the Practice of Medicine in the Nineteenth Century, and coeditor of Great Discoveries in Medicine and Dictionary of Medical Biography.
