About the Author

Nelson Algren (1909–81) lived most of his life in Chicago. He won the National Book Award in 1950 for The Man with the Golden Arm. His works include A Walk on the Wild Side, Never Come Morning, The Devil's Stocking, The Neon Wilderness, and his urban portrait, Chicago: City on the Make.
