Artists who work in new media and film are increasingly reliant on technological advancements to make the complex art we see today, such as interactive webcasts, sound performances, and robotic installations. That art, in turn, inspires engineers working on these emerging technologies to even greater heights of achievement. Research explores this fruitful partnership by focusing on the recent creations of Liverpool’s ITEM project, an initiative designed to help artists and engineers work together to develop new media tools for exhibition. The resulting artwork provides sound proof of the creative possibilities of such innovative collaborations.
