Jacques Derrida is a professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and a visiting professor at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of more than two dozen books, many of which the University of Chicago Press has published in English translation, including most recently The Work of Mourning.

Marian Hobson is a professor of French language and literature at Queen Mary, University of London. She is the author or editor of several books, including Jacques Derrida: Opening Lines and The Object of Art, and has previously translated articles by Derrida as well as works by Jean-François Lyotard and Werner Hamacher.
