E-books
from the University of Chicago Press
Many University of Chicago Press titles are available in electronic format, via our own website and through distributors of e-books to libraries and individuals.
You can download e-books directly to your computer or handheld device and read them using free Digital Editions software from Adobe—available for PC, Mac, and other e-reader platforms.
We have three licensing options for most of our e-books:
- • Perpetual ownership at list price
- • 180-day ownership for about 50% of list price
- • 30-day ownership for $5.00
When you complete the purchase of an e-book through the University of Chicago Press shopping cart, you will receive an order confirmation and a link to download your eBook, as well as a link to Adobe’s Digital Editions software. (More details about Digital Editions.)
Chicago Digital Editions are powered by BiblioVault, which provides digital file storage, management, publication, and distribution services to university presses and other not-for-profit publishers. Read our press release about Chicago Digital Editions.
Most of our recently published books are available, as well as many older titles. Look for the e-book format listed on the book product page. To browse just our e-book titles, see our listing of e-books by subject.
We offer a different free e-book every month; see this month’s title. Or, if you prefer something in a smaller size, you may download a sample chapter from Wild Justice: The Moral Lives of Animals.
