Shopping cart operations are a way to buy books from participating presses over the Internet. To use these, you will need a browser that supports Netscape-style cookies and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Web connections. Virtually any modern browser supports both of these. Please note that your shopping cart contents are stored in "session cookies" and will be reset when you quit your current browser session. Each operation is described below:
When you are ready to complete your order, you will see a billing information form to fill out. To ensure your privacy, your information is encrypted using a Secure Sockets Layer connection. When you fill out your billing information and hit the "Submit" button, basic validation will be done on the information and you will be advised of incomplete or incorrect information. Once your information appears complete on the billing form, you will see a confirmation screen. Please review the information and, if anything appears incorrect, hit your browser's Back button, correct the item in the form, and resubmit. When you are sure that your billing information is correct, hit the "Submit" button to complete your order. When your order is complete, you should see a confirmation number which you should record for future reference. If you have supplied a correct e-mail address, we will also attempt to send your confirmation by e-mail.
To help prevent fraud, we may request your credit card access number. For Mastercard and Visa, this consists of the last three digits of the number on the back of the card. For American Express, the access number is the four digits above the credit card number on the front of the card.
If you are having problems, please verify that your browser accepts "session cookies" from the "www.press.uchicago.edu" domain. Virtually all browsers accept session cookies by default. However, with Internet Explorer 6 and its new privacy features, this is worth verifying. Also, browsers are, like all software, imperfect and sometimes misrender pages. In this case, clearing the cache or "Temporary Internet Files" and reloading the page may help.
To report a problem with the Web site, please specify the publisher and title of the book you are ordering as well as a description of what went wrong. It may also be useful to specify the date and time of order, a description of what you saw on the screen and the browser and operating system you are using. Send problem reports to www-team@press.uchicago.edu. Other questions or comments can also be sent to the same address.
